PAKISTANI WEDDING CEREMONY

NIKAH:

The couple repeats the words “qubool” or “I agree” three times without any pressure from family members. The bride and groom, accompanied by two witnesses, sign the contract to be given by the imam.

  1. THE MAHR:
Mahr is a obligatory gift that the bride or her family might want, and that the groom should give to the bride. Mahr is also a symbol of the responsibility to take care of his wife, and the bride may ask for something of material value such as money or gold.
  2. THE WALI:
Wali is the bride’s father who “gives” her daughter, and the family obtains the bride’s consent for this. In the event of the father’s death, another male member of the family can take on this task.
