SOFREH AGHD
Sofreh aghd is a Persian ceremony that represents the symbolic union of the bride and groom. While the ceremony is conducted, women or female relatives of the couple hold a fine cloth, over the couple’s head. They alternate grinding the sugar cones over the bride and groom’s head, adding more sweetness to their life together. It is a symbolic act used to send good wishes to the happy newly weds.

1. ESFAND: A Persian incense that is burned and used to ward away the evil eye.The burning esfand is an important part of Iranian culture that ensures that the “evil eye” does not harm. At an Iranian wedding, as the bride walks down the aisle, one of the Bridesmaids burns Esfand and holds it around the bride several times.
2. THE MIRROR: Reflects what is before it, so symbolically it brings the couple abundance and brightness in their future. The candles bring passion and energy. Decorated eggs and nuts in their shells: For wishes of fertility. Gold and Silver: for good wishes of prosperity.
3. FRESH FLOWERS: To bring beauty in the couple’s life together. Fresh fruits: for a joyous future. Rosewater: to perfume the air and bring beauty.
4. DIPPING FINGERS IN HONEY: In Iranian weddings, The honey represents their sweet life together. As a tradition, while the Groom is holding the honey bowl, he puts his little finger into the honey and they feed it to each other.
5. “BALEH” : The important part in this tradition is the part where the officer asks the bride, “The bride does not answer and repeats the question three times – this symbolizes the groom’s journey to win the love of his wife. At the last moment, the bride finally accepts, saying “baleh!”
